The land, on the Dutch Bay Island, is bordered by the lagoon on the East and the Indian Ocean on the West. The 60 mangrove boutique chalets are located within the inland water bodies while the 20 two storey Signature Villas are situated along the Lagoon.
The hideaway boutique chalets and the Signature villas will be managed by Six Senses under the commercial name ‘Six Senses Hideaway at Dutch Bay’. The Kalpitiya region is one of the most beautiful coastal areas in the North-Western Province where the climate is tropical and temperatures range from 21C to 34C.
The peninsula separates the Puttalam Lagoon from the Indian Ocean and as such is a marine sanctuary with a diversity of habitats ranging from bar reefs, flat coastal plains, saltpan, mangrove swamps, salt marshes and vast sand dune beaches.
“The location is pure, untouched Sri Lankan beauty and tapping into new local destinations would create more reasons for tourists to travel to the island,” said Tourism Promotion Minister Faiszer Musthapha.
The foundation for the project will be laid today and the hotel will be ready for occupation on November 11, 2011 at 11.11 a.m.
This area is earmarked by the Government of Sri Lanka for the development of high-end tourism. The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Chairman Bernard Goonetilleke said “It’s wonderful for Sri Lankan Tourism to tap previously unexploited holiday destinations within the country.
The project location is surrounded by many natural attractions and locations of historic value. The project has been underway since 2005 and has achieved considerable progress.
Appointing a highly reputed project team with signature architects and signature designers, the resort will provide first class luxury for the deserving tourist. Facilities include Premium Leisure and Spa Club, floating restaurants and a helipad.
