The United Kingdom stated that it is no longer advising its citizens against travel to Sri Lanka's Eastern districts of Batticaloa, Trincomalee, and Ampara.

Britain's Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO)'s stated this in its updated 'Sri Lanka Travel Advisory 2009'.

FCO further states, 'travel to Jaffna District is possible but only by approved means. Currently, this is on government controlled buses travelling up the A9 road or by air. All foreign nationals are required to seek prior approval from the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence before attempting to travel to Jaffna'.

FCO advises Britons against all travel to the Northern districts of Kilinochchi, Mannar, Mullaittivu and Vavuniya.
