Russian assistance for Sri Lanka in media and education
During the President Mahinda Rajapaksa's state visit to Russia, the two countries have entered into an agreement for the exchange of new technology know-how in the mass media sector, the government media unit said.
Minister of Mass Media and Information Anura Priyadharshana Yapa and Russia's Mass Media Minister Alec Sharov signed an agreement to implement a program to exchange modern technology know-how in the mass media sector between Sri Lanka and Russia.
The agreement will also give an opportunity for the two countries to exchange training programmes related to the television sector, the government said.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said the Rector of the People's Friendship University (formerly Patrice Lumumba University) in Moscow and the President discussed an agreement to increase the number of scholarships granted to Sri Lankan students, especially in higher education.
