The Jewel of Muscat, a 9th Century Arabian Dhow gift from the Sultanate of Oman to the Singapore government, has arrived at its second stop, Galle, in Sri Lanka, after sailing through a tropical storm.

A welcome ceremony will be held in Galle on Monday.

The Jewel of Muscat is expected to arrive in Singapore in July this year.

While it has only been a short hop for the crew on the Jewel of Muscat from Kochi, India to the second port stopover in Galle, Sri Lanka, sailors said the leg has tested the crew's ability to cope with rain.

As the Jewel of Muscat heads deeper into the tropics on its route to Singapore, the weather patterns will change, with thunderstorms expected.
