The All Share Price Index (ASI) crossed the key 5,000 mark to record a near 50 percent gain so far this year, official figures showed. The ASI ended the day at 5,008.18, up 1.31 percent from Monday and 47.92 percent since the start of the year, Colombo Stock Exchange figures showed. Sri Lanka’s modest equity market has been one of the world’s top gainers since government forces crushed Tamil Tiger rebels in May last year and ended a civil war that had claimed up to 100,000 lives. Tourism, infrastructure-related stocks and banks have been doing well on the back of expectations that more holidaymakers will visit the island, which is also set to rebuild its war-ravaged northeast.
