Sri Lanka to compete in Asia Cup Baseball

BaseballSeven countries including India have confirmed their participation in the eight-country Asia Cup Baseball scheduled to be held at Sports Complex, Islamabad from May 18 to 25.

Pakistan Baseball Federation Secretary Khawar Shah said that besides India, the other countries, which have confirmed their participation, are Hong Kong, Thailand, Iraq, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Iran.

Sri Lanka call up Chandimal for World Twenty20 squad

Sri Lanka have named uncapped wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Chandimal in their 15-man squad to compete in the Twenty20 World Cup next month.
The 20-year-old was called up for the squad by selectors on Wednesday after scoring 320 runs at an average of 53.33 in Sri Lanka's domestic T20 league.
Also included in the squad is 40-year-old veteran Sanath Jayasuriya, who is campaigning to become a member of parliament in Sri Lanka's elections.
Off spinner Suraj Randiv is one of three specialist spinners included in the line-up alongside regulars Muttiah Muralitharan and Ajantha Mendis.
Kumar Sangakkara will lead Sri Lanka's campaign in the tournament, while Muralitharan will be his deputy
Sri Lanka will take on New Zealand in the opening match of the competition, which will be staged in the West Indies and is scheduled to take place from April 30 to May 16.

VassKumar Sangakkara must have seen it a thousand times yet when it came towards him on Friday it was of little help. Chaminda Vaas' fingers cut across the ball at release, the ball swerved across, gripped the pitch and broke back in. Sangakkara pushed out like a novice, the bat was stabbed outside the line and the ball cut back in to take a fatal inside edge. Vaas' slow offcutter had done it again.

'Stop overkill of cricket on TV' - Sangakkara

SangaKumar Sangakkara, the Sri Lanka captain, has called for several changes to increase the popularity of five-day cricket, including paying Test players significantly more and not broadcasting the game in the city hosting the game until a large crowd turns up at the ground. Speaking on Cricinfo's video show Opening Up, Sangakkara also said every country should have an iconic series like the Ashes to draw spectators to the stadiums.

There has been plenty of talk over the decline of Tests, but Sangakkara said it was premature to write the format's obituary. "Everyone is talking about Test cricket dying. Maybe we are pre-empting its death and trying to kill it before its time," he said. "When it comes to players, they value playing the five-day version a lot more than they do any other version."
