al_travelAfter a 30-year battle blighted parts of Sri Lanka, leaving them closed off to travellers, the Foreign Office has finally lifted the last of the country's travel restrictions.

The island nation, popular among British visitors for its beautiful beaches, tropical forests and colonial history, has declared itself fully open for business as the last of its security warnings are removed.

The British Government had previously warned against all travel to the northern provinces of Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi, Mannar, and Vavuniya - areas that for years were dominated by the rebel Tamil Tigers fighters.

food"Hawker Street" came alive today for the SPICE World Food Festival which will go on until the 18th of July 2010. The festival is part of trying to spice up Colombo's Tourism which has begun to gradually increase. Colombo, Sri Lanka. 16/07/2010

I took a Walk down Green Path this evening and experienced a gastronomic voyage around the world.
The streets took a festive air with live music, Sri Lankan crab cooking competitions, cookery demonstrations with signature chefs, along with special cultural performances giving the visitors a diverse cultural experience to culinary voyage.

Lankan_Holiday_makerSri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau's (SLTPB) Middle East office reported an enormous surge in the number of Bahraini travellers to Sri Lanka, as arrivals rose by an unprecedented 142% in the first six months of 2010 compared to the same period last year, according to statistics compiled by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority. The total number of travellers from the Middle East region reflected a similar upsurge with arrivals increasing by 102% over the same period.
