UK relaxes travel advisory to Sri Lanka PDF Print E-mail

sri-lanka-tourismBritain has further relaxed its travel advisory to Sri Lanka this week, after an initial relaxation in June this year.

The Minister of Tourism Promotion for the island nation, Faiszer Musthapa, is said to have been engaged in talks with Dr Peter Hayes, British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, to discuss the travel advisory relaxation.

"Tourism Celebrating Diversity"

World Tourism Day (WTD) is celebrated on  September 27 annually in worldwide. This year will mark the 30th Anniversary of the UNWTO World Tourism Day and UNWTO has declared this year’s theme as “Tourism Celebrating Diversity”.

world-tourissm-dayThe Government has declared a Tourism Week to mark “World Tourism Day” which falls on September 27. The Tourism Week will begin on the 27th of this month and will continue until October 3. The aim is to achieve an environment friendly tourism growth. The Ministry of Tourism is keen to give vigor to the industry to usher economic prosperity.

Yet Vesess, a web application development company from Sri Lanka is doing just that. Their newest venture, Hotelotravel.com (HOT), is an online travel planner that focuses on speed and usability. Rather than have dozens of pages between the user and the booking, HOT’s goal is to let the user go from browsing to booking in a few easy steps.

"When we designed HOT, our goal was to simplify the booking process," says Founder CEO Lankitha Wimalarathna. "When you come to a site to book a hotel room, you generally want to do that as quickly as possible. Funnily enough, a lot of the major players make this very difficult."

luxurious_resortSri Lanka’s second international hotel chain, Six Senses is opening up a luxurious resort at Dutch Bay Kalpitiya. Titled ‘Dutch Bay Resorts’, this joint venture between Six Senses and Swarna Dweep, will be an up-market luxury resort.

 

The land, on the Dutch Bay Island, is bordered by the lagoon on the East and the Indian Ocean on the West. The 60 mangrove boutique chalets are located within the inland water bodies while the 20 two storey Signature Villas are situated along the Lagoon.

sri-lanka-small-miracleSri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau’s (SLTPB) Middle East office has announced official support for the forthcoming" Lanka Challenge 2009", a ten-day charity adventure rickshaw race taking place in Sri Lanka during September. Lanka Challenge 2009 will see adventurous travellers from around the world navigate through the beautiful terrains of Sri Lanka from 5th to 15th September 2009, in an auto rickshaw.

The Lanka Challenge is organized by Large Minority and endorsed and supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau in partnership with Let's Travel Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.
