Microsoft is hoping the successor to Vista will be more of a hit with users when it launches on 22 October.

Many of the features take into account multimedia applications and the fact that users are beginning to store their data on the internet.

In the UK some computer stores are due to open at midnight so keen PC users can get their hands on the software.

Millions_tricked_by_scarewareOnline criminals are making millions of pounds by convincing computer users to download fake anti-virus software, internet security experts claim.

Symantec says more than 40 million people have fallen victim to the "scareware" scam in the past 12 months.

The download is usually harmful and criminals can sometimes use it to get the victim's credit card details.

The firm has identified 250 versions of scareware, and criminals are thought to earn more than £750,000 each a year.

YoutubeOneBillionYouTube now gets over a billion hits a day, according to a new video blog post by the founder of the website.

Chad Hurley's blog marks the third anniversary of YouTube's controversial acquisition by Google.

The site was bought by Google in 2006 for $1.65bn - a price it later described as "a premium".

sony3D television should be available in people's homes by the end of next year.

That's what the chief executive of Sony, Sir Howard Stringer, is expected to say at a trade show in Berlin this afternoon.

For such an influential industry person to get involved with, and back so strongly, what is still very new technology shows how far it's come in the last few years.

2009 has seen an explosion in the number of 3D cinema screens across the UK - with ten new ones opening every week.

If you believe the hype a new film from James Cameron, the man behind Titantic, will revolutionise the genre when it's released in December.

brain_scansScientists are one step closer to knowing what you've seen by reading your mind.

Having modeled how images are represented in the brain, the researchers translated recorded patterns of neural activity into pictures of what test subjects had seen.

Though practical applications are decades away, the research could someday lead to dream-readers and thought-controlled computers.

"It's what you would actually use if you were going to build a functional brain-reading device," said Jack Gallant, a University of California, Berkeley neuroscientist.
