Microsoft debuts 'fix it' program PDF Print E-mail

FIX_ITMicrosoft has launched "Fix It" software that keeps an eye on a PC and automatically repairs common faults.

The software basically adds the automatic diagnostics system in Windows 7 to older versions of Microsoft's operating system.

The software, currently available as a trial or beta version, is intended for users of Windows XP and Vista.

pornA new type of malware infects PCs using file-share sites and publishes the user's net history on a public website before demanding a fee for its removal.

The Japanese trojan virus installs itself on computers using a popular file-share service called Winni, used by up to 200m people.

It targets those downloading illegal copies of games in the Hentai genre, an explicit form of anime.

Website Yomiuri claims that 5500 people have so far admitted to being infected.

The virus, known as Kenzero, is being monitored by web security firm Trend Micro in Japan.

South_KoreaThe South Korean government is introducing policies aimed at curbing the amount of time children spend playing online games.

The first involves barring online gaming access to young people of school age between 12am (midnight) and 8am.

The other policy suggests slowing down people's internet connections after they have been logged on to certain games for a long period of time.

MI5 staff who lack computer skills made redundant PDF Print E-mail

Mi5MI5 is ditching staff who lack computer skills in a programme of compulsory and voluntary redundancies.

The Intelligence and Security Committee said the service had been reviewing its staff profile and one area of concern was the level of IT skills.

MI5 director general Jonathan Evans told the committee: "I think some of the staff perhaps aren't quite the ones that we will want for the future."
